The Construction team has an excellent track record in advising clients on a wide range of construction, engineering, procurement and information technology issues, with the team providing clients with definable value at every stage of the process.

We act for contractors, consultants, construction finance providers, developers, home owners, public authorities and specialist sub-contractors. Our clients include those who regularly purchase construction services, notably in the manufacturing, education, utilities, transport, heritage and agriculture sectors.

Given our experience over many years with a number of different clients in particular sectors, we have together with other lawyers in Thring Townsend Lee & Pembertons developed a great deal of sectoral knowledge.

We work in partnership with clients in order to understand their commercial and individual needs, and to deliver the right solutions for their business and projects. This includes identifying the key objectives, agreeing the appropriate strategy and managing that strategy so that ultimately those objectives are met.

The team’s specialist lawyers are also actively involved in best practice organisations, industry societies and contract drafting panels.

Procurement and drafting

We assist clients in framing procurement strategies and ensuring compliance with applicable procurement legislation. Our lawyers have advised on every major domestic and international standard form of construction contract.

We are experienced in drafting and negotiating the documents required for both simple developments and complex PFI or FM projects, and in negotiating security documentation.

Project lifecycle issues and risk management

During the construction process, you may want to approach us with discrete enquiries or you may want an in-depth tailored risk assessment, and our team will respond with the required advice and assistance.

Dispute avoidance

As soon as you take on a project, we can advise on the incorporation of appropriate dispute resolution processes in the contracts. During the course of the project, we can assist with measures that can be taken to avoid or at least minimise disputes arising, and to enable you to work towards achieving a successful delivery of the project.

Dispute resolution

We have considerable experience of dealing with and resolving construction, engineering, process plant and information technology disputes, including those involving negotiations, adjudications, litigation, arbitrations, mediations and other “alternative” dispute resolution processes.
